COMING UP: An Evening of Mentorship Appreciation

Home MentorshipCOMING UP: An Evening of Mentorship Appreciation

January is National Mentoring Month, promoting and celebrating mentorship as an important part of the journey to success. We at NWPB are using this time to recognize the volunteers who participate in our Immigrant Mentorship Program with a special Mentorship Appreciation event, taking place in the evening of Wednesday, January 29, 2020. This annual event serves to graciously thank the local professionals taking part in our program for devoting time out of their schedules to advise and guide newcomers to Niagara toward meaningful work in their professional fields.

NWPB’s Immigrant Mentorship Program pairs internationally trained professionals (ITPs) with established local professionals in the newcomer’s field of expertise. The mentoring program is designed to introduce the newcomer to their industry in Niagara, as well as Canadian workplace culture. (Learn more about the Immigrant Mentorship program here.)

This year’s celebration is the second of this kind to be held by NWPB. Last year’s inaugural event was a fantastic success, with program participants new and old having a chance to reconnect with their mentors and mentees, as well as getting a chance to meet other participants and alumni in the program and network with fellow professionals from throughout the region. These events serve as one of many opportunities that NWPB’s Immigrant Mentorship Program facilitates throughout the year, for the purpose of enabling newcomers to form new connections with individuals in a wide variety of industries. Through these events, mentees practice the networking and self-promotion skills they developed with their mentors during their partnership.

The highlight of the evening will be a ceremony to recognize the mentors for their contribution to the community. Mentors will be presented with certificates recognizing their contributions.

The Mentorship Appreciation event will take place on Wednesday, January 29, 5:30 – 8 pm at Johnny Rocco’s Italian Grill, 271 Merritt Street, St. Catharines. NWPB invites both mentors and mentees to attend for an evening of celebration, appreciation, and of course, great food!
