Niagara Workforce Planning Board (NWPB), in partnership with Leadership Niagara, is pleased to announce an exciting skills development opportunity for local professionals.

On November 21, 2018, Leadership Niagara will be offering its one-day Niagara Cross-Cultural Certificate (Understanding Cross-Cultural Mentorship) workshop from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This certificate equips professionals interested in engaging as mentors in NWPB’s Immigrant Mentorship Program with the knowledge and soft skills necessary to guide highly trained newcomers toward rewarding careers in their field of expertise. NWPB’s Mentorship Program pairs established local professionals as mentors with internationally trained professionals.

NWPB’s CEO, Mario De Divitiis, states, “Our mentorship program is designed to help newcomers with their networking and integration into the local workforce, and the great thing is that mentors benefit, too. This is especially true thanks to this partnership with Leadership Niagara. Through their certificate, mentors enhance their coaching and leadership skills, which they can carry forward to their work with mentees and their careers.”

The day-long workshop will introduce mentors to cross-cultural differences and other potential roadblocks faced by newcomers navigating Canadian workplace culture, and explore best practices for fostering successful mentoring relationships with mentees. Participants expand their professional networks, gain global insights, and lead the way in building workplace diversity in Niagara.

“We are really excited about this partnership as an example of community building and collaboration,” says Shane Malcolm, Leadership Niagara’s Executive Director. “This workshop will be a great opportunity for mentors to experience a potential perspective and mindset tune-up before embarking on their mentorship journey with NWPB.” He continues, “I believe in setting people up for success, and I think the conversations we will have in this workshop will do just that.“
