Sustainable Employment in Niagara – Retail

Home Sustainable Employment in Niagara – Retail

About the project

In 2019, the retail sector housed over 25,000 jobs in Niagara – almost 14% of all local jobs. Over the past year, the pandemic created significant disruption in this sector. To address this issue, Niagara Workforce Planning Board, Literacy Link Niagara, and the Greater Niagara Chamber of Commerce produced a joint project spotlighting local retail.

This project encouraged insights from local retail employers, job seekers and employees, and service providers to highlight the various employment-related needs within the sector. It also allowed us to demonstrate the changes within retail brought on by the pandemic.

Below we have a variety of free resources related to the retail sector including:

  • a contextual report outlining the impacts of COVID-19,
  • blog posts highlighting characteristics of local retail,
  • insights from local job seekers and employers,
  • an employer toolkit for workforce attraction and retention.

Our hope is that this information can be used to inform community action and government policies aimed at assisting in the change brought about by COVID-19 and the growth and development of the retail trade industry.
